Chengdu Lantern
Festival
In China, enjoying the lantern on the Lantern Festival is one of our
Chinese customs. Chengdu Lantern Festival is based on this old custom
and then developed. During this time, in the park, there are folk art
forms, acrobatics and variety shows. Also, there are a lot of snacks,
which are from different places. And you can see the people who sell
pinwheels and who make sweet-man. Every time, the number of the visitors
is over one million.
Chengdu Flower
Fair
Chengdu Flower Fair has more than 1000 yeas' history, it started in Tang
Dynasty and Song Dynasty. It is in Qingyang Palace, which is outside the
western gate of Chengdu. At that time, all the flower nursery holders
near Chengdu will take their rare flowers, potted flowers and potted
landscapes to Qingyang Palace, and then set up a stall to sell all of
them. During this period, besides some traditional celebrations, there
are some other celebrations such as birds market, books market and
drawing and writing selling.
Xinjin Dragon
Boat Race
On May 5th of Chinese lunar year, the people in the south always hold
the Dragon Boat Race. This is one of their traditional customs. Although
Chengdu is to the north of the Yangtze River, it is a region of rivers
and lakes. Because of this, the Dragon Boat Race has a very long
history. During this competition, besides some traditional shows like
Dragon Boat ferries, there still is the exhibition of the mould making
of the dragon boats and the travelling at night by colored boats.
Time: During the Dragon Boat Festival (every June or July).
Tianpeng Peony
Fair
Pengzhou is the base of growing peonies, which is in the northern part
of Chengdu and was called Tianpeng in the ancient times. In order to
develop the folk art of here, Pengdu City holds a very big Peony Fair
every year on Tomb Sweeping Festival. During the festival, besides the
Peony Exhibition and Danjing Hill visiting, there is still some
recreational activities with distinctive national features, such as
exchanging discussing the technologies, selling some special local
products and so on.
