Chuan Opera
Chuan Opera is a kind of local opera, which is popular in the whole area of Sichuan and some parts of Yunnan and Guizhou. It is one of the main operas of the Chinese traditional opera.

Chuan Opera has got its name in Tongzhi times of Qing Dynasty. Compare with other operas in China, the distinguish feature is its high pitched tune. Chuan Opera including the Kun tunes the high-pitched tune, Hu harp, Dan opera and Lantern opera. The characters of Chuan Opera are nearly the same as Peking Opera. They are divided into five roles: Sheng, Dan, Jing, Mo, and Chou. Among them, Sheng, Dan and Chou roles are the main ones. The clothes and the face making-up are also the same as Peking Opera. The clothes are made as the style of Ming Dynasty and also refereed to the clothes of Tang, Song, Yuan and Qing Dynasties. All the clothes are in the same style and there isn't any difference about the dynasty, the area or the seasons.

Chuan Opera has a lot of traditional theatrical pieces. Some of them are about the common people's life, some of them are the history stories or the fairy tales and some of them are the processing of other operas. In Chuan Opera, the Zhezi opera is the most famous one. The unique skill "face changing" is loved by all the audience.

Chengdu Folk Art Forms

Sichuan Dulcimer: It is the main accompaniment instrument when the actor sings and talks. The player can describe the plot, the characters and the feelings of them such as happy, angry and sad of the stories by using vivid singing and the dulcimer. Sichuan Bamboo Harp: The bamboo drum, tambourine and Jian board are the main instruments when the actor plays. There are many ways of singing, such as playing alone or playing in a group with 4 or 5 people.

Sichuan Storytelling: It is a kind of talking art. The teller can attract the audiences by using desks, fans, noisy wood and some other props and the lot of vivid words.

Sichuan Xie Opera: It is a kind of comic dialogue, which is using the Sichuan dialect. Because of the players' humorous act, it is said that one in the stage but the all the audiences is excited.

Sichuan Drum Opera: It is a kind of singing art, which is based on the folk drum opera. It is usually shown by two actors. The unique skill is that the player can throw the sticks and then beat the drum. It is like the performance of throwing knives in the acrobatics and it is very stimulated.
