Dian Opera

 

The Dian Opera is a local genre of drama, which has a history of over 200 years. It originated from the Shaanxi opera, the musical style of the Anhui opera, the Chu opera (the local opera of Hubei and part of Jiangxi provinces) and the Hubei opera, integrated with the habits and customs of the people of Yunnan Province with the aesthetic conceptions, especially the local dialects and folk music, which gave rise to Dian Opera vocal music with silk string two-stringed bowed instruments and Xiangyang instrument as the main operatic tunes. It is an opera imbued with a unique artistic style and a strong local color.

 

Local Opera
(Floral Lantern, popular in Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces):
The local opera is a kind of mini play with folk song and dances. It evolved and formed on the basis of folk songs and ditties and local dances. It has history of more than 200 years. It can be performed singing with actions, song and dances and it can also be performed with actions, songs and dances and it can also be performed with large and medium-sized traditional and modern plays. There are more than 1000 tunes in the local opera, the vocal music of which sounds beautiful and lyrical, popular and easy to understand, and rich in flavor of life. There in the program are well over 200 plays of traditional songs and dances and local mini operas which are deeply liked by the people.

 

The National Songs and Dances
National Music includes five main categories of folk songs, national musical instruments, local songs and dances and music, a genre of popular entertainment music (consisting mainly of talking and singing, and traditional opera music). In the civilization of all the nationalities, the performance of the local songs and instrumental music and the local songs and dances each has its own significant feature. The folk song "My Love, the Flowing Stream" enjoys the most popular reputation. The national dance has not only a long history but also multi-art forms and a great variety. There are over 20 nationalities each of which has its own dance with unique feature and a nationality because of its different branches or because of different areas they live in, has also different forms of dance. The national dances are more often than not linked with national traditional festivals. The festivities very often reach their climax with the performance of thousands of dances in pageantry.
