Transportation in Shanghai

Shanghai is the important hub of communications of China and one of the biggest ports in the Far East as well. The airlines, railways, highways, marine and inland transportation coming in and out of Shanghai fast developed and highly advanced. The underground railways, taxis, buses, minibuses, ferry boats and sight-seeing buses shuttle back and forth all the time, radiating in all directions.

Bus: The bus lines in the urban area of Shanghai crisscross like a spider web. Any Line with the "1" as first number belongs to whole day long line, while those with "2" or "4" as first number belong to climax line in the morning and evening (6:00-8:30 and 15:30-18:00) and lines with "3" as the first number belong to nightline (23:00-4:00). Most of the bus tickets price is unified ¢D 0.50Yuan. Besides there are new type air-conditioned buses, special line buses, medium buses and double deck buses whose tickets are of one Yuan and two Yuans in different grade prices.

Taxi: It is very convenient to take taxi in Shanghai with the 24 hours' service. It counts 5 km for starting price, the standard of which is: for midget sedan ¢D10.80 (¢D12.60 after 23 o'clock in the midnight) with ¢D1.60 per km; for bus type taxi ¢D14.40 (¢D16.80 after 23 o'clock in the midnight) with ¢D1.80 per km. Passengers may complain to the Management Office of the Public Passenger Traffic of Shanghai for being refused and service problems alike (telephone number for complaining: 65355111).

Sight-seeing Bus: The sightseeing route of the Shanghai Jin Jiang tourist coach: Jin Jiang Hotel-People's Square-Oriental Bright Pearl-Yao Han New Age Commercial Mansions-Nan Pu Bridge-Yu Yuan (Garden of comforts)-The Bund-People's Square-Jin Jiang Hotel.

Sightseeing time: 9:00-21:00

Scattered passengers may take the coach from different Scenery spots and buys tickets on board.

Subways: The No.1 route of the Shanghai Subways was thoroughly completed and open to traffic in April, 1995, with 16.1 km in total length and 13 stops, passing through central areas of commerce of Nightlines City, Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road and Xujiahui etc.

Car Rental: If you want to hire a car or a car with a driver, you have only to show identity card, driving license, valid certificates and to hand over some cash bond, then you complete the relative procedures for chartering.
