Changsha History and Culture |
Changsha is a city that has a very long history. Changsha got its name in the time of Western Chou, and till now, it has 3000 years' history. In Spring and Autumn Period and Warriors States Period, Changsha was the strategic area in the southern part of Chu country. After Emperor Qin destroyed the other six countries, he unified China in 221B.C. And then separated it into 36 cantons. And Changsha was set up as one. In 202 BC, Liubang who was the first emperor of Han dynasty changed cantons into countries. So Changsha became a capital city of one of the countries, and Wurui was made the king of Changsha. For the later years, 41 persons were made the same position.
In every dynasty, there were a lot of talented people in Changsha.
There are many places of interest in Changsha. Such as Mawangdui Han Tombs, Yuelu College and Aiwan pavilion, etc.
In Changsha, there are lots of traditional goods. Hunan embroidery has more than 2000 years' history. Hunan, Suzhou, Sichuan and Guangdong embroidery are the four famous ones in China. Xiang flavor dishes are called Hunan dishes too, which is one of the eight famous local dishes in China and have long history. Liuyang fireworks and firecrackers are the traditional specialties in Hunan; they are famous both in China and abroad. Also they are sold both in China and some other foreign countries.
