Lhasa has long been the capital of Tibet. It is the most important city of the region with a history of over 1300 years. At the beginning of the seventh century, King Songtsen Gampo united the independent tribes in Tibet into a slavery kingdom known as "Tubo" and made Lhasa the capital. Tibetan Buddhism spread throughout Tibet during the seventh century.
Lhasa has many historic relics, including Platala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sela Temple, Zhefeng Temple, and Norbu Lingka.
Frescoes can be seen in every temple. Those frescoes include the portraits of Buddha, Goddess, Dalai Lama, and Bainqen, as well as the pictures that depict Buddhist tales, great historic events, and customs.
