Nanchang is the ancient city in the southern part of China. It was built as a city in 201BC. In the ancient times, Nanchang was the prosperous land in Jiangnan, so it got its name. In the past, it was called Yuzhang and Hongdu too.
In the New Stone Time, there were some primitive tribes in Nanchang. After emperor Qin unified China, Nanchang belonged to Jiujiang canton. And at that time, it wasn't a city. In the period of Three Kingdoms, two Jins, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Nanchang still belonged to Yuzhang canton. The urban district had got great development and there were some temples in the suburbs. In Tang dynasty, it was called Hongdu, and it was the government office of Hongdu manager office, Dudu office and Jiangnan Xidao. In Yuan dynasty, Nanchang became Longxing Road; it was the government office of Xingzhoungshu province. In the early period of Qing dynasty, it was changed into Nanchang office, and belonged to Nanruidao. In 1926, North-Against Troops got into Nanchang, and from then on, it became a city.
Nanchang has fine tradition of revolution. The famous Nanchang Rebellion broke out here.
There are some historical relics in Nanchang, such as King Teng Attic and the headquarters of the famous Nanchang Rebellion.
Gan opera and Picking tea opera are both popular in Jiangxi. Gan opera is one of the ancient operas in China. Porcelain pictures, porcelain caving and jade caving are the well-known handicraft in Nanchang.
The snake medicine wine, which is made by Huzhou people, is famous both in China and abroad.
