Situated in Jiangsu Province, Nanjing is a famous city with
a long History. It is one of the six ancient capital cities
of China. As far back as the third century A.D, Nanjing was
established as the capital of the stated of Wu. After the Wu,
it became the capital of several dynasties, including the Eastern
Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, Cheng, Southern Tang, and Ming. Between
1853 and 1864, Nanjing was the capital of the Taiping rebels.
In 1927 it became the capital of the Republic of China (1912-1949)
ruled by the Kuomintang government.
Nanjing has many historic relics, such as the Neolithic relics,
the ruin of the Stone City built by the state of Wu, and Ming
Xiao Ling (tomb of the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty). The
region's tourist attractions include Sun Yatsen Mausoleum, the
Xuanwu Lake, the Mochou Lake, the Qixia Mountain, the Tang Mountain,
and the Pearl Spring.
The gold-silver thread, a folk artifact, was created more than
one thousand years ago. Yunjin, a kind of silk fabric with a
history of over 1500 years, is famous for its beautiful colour
and exquisite designs. The bright and colourful Yuhua stones
are a local specialty. Well-known traditional food includes
Nanjing Duck and cured spicy sausages.
