Ningbo History and Culture

Yong is short for Ningbo. It is a famous port city in our country.

Ningbo is an ancient city that has a very long history. 7000 years ago, there was culture of the Hemudu New Stone Times. In Hsia dynasty, 21st century BC, administrative policy appeared. In Spring and Autumn Period, Ningbo belonged to Yue. In Qin dynasty, it belonged to Huiji County. In 738 of tang dynasty, it became a province called Ming province. The capital was in Xiaoxi. (now it is Jinjiang Bridge of Jin Province). In 821, the capital moved from Xiaoxi to Sanjiangkou (now it is Ningbo City). In 1381, Ming province changed its name into Ningbo, because Ningbo means if the sea is stable, the waves will be peaceful. And from then on, the name Ningbo began to be used.

In Ningbo, there are beautiful hills and famous people and places. It is called the land of historical relics. The famous historical relics are Tianyi Attic, Baoguo Temple and Tianfeng Tower, etc.

In Ningbo, the history of embroidery is very long; it can back to the Tang dynasty and Song dynasty. And since Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty, the technique of embroidery has got great progress. At that time, the embroidery crafts were sold abroad. The bone inlay work is one of the ancient handicrafts in China, and it has been the offering.

About the fruits in Ningbo, arbutus and kumquats are the most delicious ones. The traditional food here is cakes and dumplings in soup.
