The Chuang Nationality is distributed mainly over Guangxi Chuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province. A small number of them are scattered in Guangdong, Hunan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. The population is 15.489 million. It is the largest nationality in number among the minority nationalities. The Chuangs are given different names in different places, "Bushuang", "Buchuang", "Bunong", "Buman", etc. The Chuang nationality developed from a branch of Yue people (Yue was one of the Warring States) in ancient China. The Chuangs have their own language and writing, which belong to the Chinese-Tibetan language family, dividing into two major dialects, north and south. Their written language is phonetic alphabet writing. The Chuangs are mainly engaged in agriculture, growing paddy rice and maise.
