The Hani Natioality mainly lives in compact communities in Yunnan Province. Its population is 1.253 million. The Hani Nationality calls itself "Hani", "Ani" etc. Like the Yi Nationality, the Hani Nationality's origin was also from ancient Qiang people who moved south in the old days. The Hanis have their own language belonging to the Chinese-Tibetan language family. The Hani Nationality is famous for its ability of ploughing terraced field. The major agricultural products are rice, maize, cotton and tea leaves.
