The Li Su Nationality mainly lives in compact communities in Yunnan Province and is partly scattered in Sichuan Province. The Li Su Nationality calls itself "Li Su". Its origin was "Wu Man" of ancient time which is very close in relation with the Yi Nationality and the Na Xi Nationality. The Li Su Nationality has its own language which belongs to Chinese-Tibetan language family. It used two writings: one was alphabetic created by western missionaries and the other was syllable language created by peasants of the Li Su Nationality. The Li Su Nationality goes mainly in for agriculture with the growth of maize as the main crop, but also cultivates paddy rice, wheat and buckwheat etc. The industrial crops include jute, sugar cane, precious fur and mountain products.
