The She Nationality

The Shes mainly live in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces and are also distributed over Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces. The population is 0.63 million.
The She Nationality calls itself "Shan Ha" and "Ha". So far as the origin of the She Nationality is concerned, there are various versions at present. One is that like the Yao Nationality, the She Nationality's origin was from "Wu Lin Man" of Changsha in the Han and Jin dynasties. The other is to trace further to "Xu Yi", a southwest branch of "Dong Yi" who lived between the Huai River and the Yellow River in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Still another says that the She Nationality is from the ancient "Man" or "Nan Man".
The Shes have their own language which belongs to the Chinese-Tibetan language family. They do not writing of their own; they use the Chinese writing in general.
The Shes mainly go in for agriculture. The main products are paddy, sweet potato, wheat, pulse and tobacco, etc.
