The Hezhe nationality has a population of 4,200. They mainly live in Heilongjiang province. The Hezhe people call themselves Na, Bei, or Naniao. The ethnic group formed in the early period of the Qing Dynasty by integrating with other groups including Oroqen. The Hezhe people speak a language belonging to the Manchu-Tungusic group of the Altaic language family. They have no written language. Fishing Hezhe people's main occupation. Their transportation means in winter time are sledges being pulled by dogs.
