The Mulam nationality has a population of 159,000. 90% of the Mulam people reside in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Mulam people call themselves Ling or Jing. According to historical records, they have lived in the Luocheng area since the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1386 AD). The spoken language of the Mulam nationality belongs to the Maonan, Tong, and Shui group of dialects of the Chinese-Tibetan language family. They have no written language. Agriculture is the mainstay of the nationality. They grow rice, corns, potatoes, and vegetables.
