The Oroqen nationality has a population of 6,900. They mainly live in Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Oroqen people roamed in the northern area of Heilongjiang Province in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. This ethnic group and other groups, including the Daur and Ewenki, were called Suolunbu during that time. The Oroqen people's spoken language belongs to the Tungus branch of the Manchu-Tungusic group of the Altaic language family. They have no written language. Hunting and handiwork are Oroqen people's main occupation. Oroqen men are good at riding horses. The women are skillful at making handicrafts.
