The Pumi Nationality

There are about 29,000 Pumi people in China. They mainly live in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
The Pumi people call themselves puyingmi, Purimi, or Peimi. Their ancestors were a nomadic tribe roaming about the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
The language of the Pumi people belongs to the Tibetan-Burmese language group of the Chinese-Tibetan language family.
Agriculture and animal husbandry are their mainstay. The chief farm products include corns, wheat, and barley.
