Located in the northeastern part of Hebei Province'Qinhuangdao City is only 280 kilometers from Beijing and 220 kilometers from Tianjin. The city has three urban districts: Haigang, Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan. Qinhuangdao neighbors Beijing and Tianjin in the west and faces the Bohai Sea in the east.
With a long history, Qinhuangdao is the only Chinese city that is named after an emperor ¡V Emperor Qinshihuang. The city is also an important foreign trade port in North China and a national grade-A tourism city approved by the State Council. By the end of 2004, the city had a total population of more than 2.75 million residents.
In the temperate zone of semi-humid continental monsoon climate, Qinhuangdao enjoys a mild climate; dry in spring, cool in autumn, not hot in summer and not so cold in winter. Although with diversified landforms in the city, Qinhuangdao has an average annual temperature of 11.2¢J, with the average high temperature of 24.2¢J and the lowest temperature of minus 4.6¢J. Annual rainfall in the city is 617.5 millimeters.
Qinhuangdao boasts many beautiful mountain and sea sceneries. The most famous scenic areas include Beidaihe seashore tourism scenic area, the Shanhaiguan tourism area and the Laoling mountainous tourism area.
In Haigang District, the most famous scenic spots include Emperor Qinshihuang's Immortality-seeking Seaside -- the place where people went out to the sea to seek immortality for Emperor Qinshihuang in the Qin Dynasty, and the water sports area on the sea; in the seashore tourism area, famous sceneries include Beidaihe, Nandaihe, the golden coast and Jieshi Hill, etc. Vast sea and long coastlines are the most attractive features of Qinhuangdao. Along the several dozen kilometers long golden sand beaches, there are lush forests and blue sea, which forms a beautiful painting of nature.
In the Shanhaiguan tourism area, the well-known sceneries include The First Pass under Heaven, Old Dragon's Head, Jiaoshan Great Wall, Meng Jiangnv Garden, Longevity Mountain, and Yansai Lake, etc. which are typical cultural and historic sites of Qinhuangdao City.
