Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains
 

The ancient complex in Wudang Mountains comprises a group of palaces and temples exemplifying the architectural and artistic achievements from China's Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Located in northwestern Hubei Province, it was built as an organized complex during the Ming dynasty (14th¡V17th centuries); Taoist buildings were existed from as early as the 7th century. It represents the highest standard of Chinese art and architecture over a period of nearly 1,000 years.

Wudangshan, also named Taihe Mountain connecting with Qinling Mountain ranges in the north and Bashan Mountain in the south is a sanctuary of Taoism, where many famed Taoists have practiced cultivation of the mind. The place is also the origin of the famous Wudang school of Chinese martial arts.

On the Mount Wudang, there are many famous sightseeing spots including 72 peaks, 36 rocks, and 24 ravines ¡V most of these are related to beautiful legendary stories. The scenic spots and historic/cultural sites here have won "the number one fairy mountain" reputation with scenery unrivaled from anywhere in the country since ancient times.

In 1994, the ancient Building Complex in Wudang Mountains was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
