The Temple located in the northeastern suburbs of Nanjing, on the east of Zhong Shan Mausoleum was constructed in the Nanchao Dynasty. Among the 70 temples in Zhong Shan district, it's the only one to be preserved today. Covering an area of about 500 Mu and accommodating over thousand monks, the Temple was very large in scale in the Ming Dynasty. However, except the Wu Liang Hall, it's a pity that all the palaces were destroyed by the wars taken place in the period of emperor Xian Feng of the Qing Dynasty.
In 1876, a new temple Long Wang Temple was built on the east of Wu Liang Hall authorized by Zeng Guo Fan, a minister of the Qing Dynasty. In the period of emperor Guang Xu of the Qing Dynasty, The Bao Gong Tower, Jin Gang Temple and Tian Bao Temple were put up one after anther.
In 1928, the Government of Koumingtang reconstructed the Temple for use as a tomb to commemorate the military officers and men falling in the battles of the Northern Expedition (1926-1927). The Memorial Hall was at the former site of Wu Liang Hall that was built in the Ming Dynasty and Known as the Beamless for not an inch of wood and a nail was used from the basic to the hall top, but large size bricks. It's a marvel of old-age buildings of Chinese history.
