Mount Muztagata towers 7,546 meters above sea level. Located at 75.1º N and 38.5º E, Mount Muztagata lies in the territory of Akto County that borders Kashgar Prefecture and Kizilsu Autonomous Prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is one of the three highest mountains in the East Pamir Plateau. On the mountain, there are four major ridges: South Ridge, West Ridge, Northwest Ridge and Northeast Ridge. The perfectly round-shaped mountain apex is covered by white snow all year round, with the average thickness of ice and snow to reach 100 to 200 meters. More than 10 glaciers rush down the mountain to the valleys at the foot of the mountain, creating a magnificent view and winning Mount Muztagata the fame of "Father of Glaciers". The north and east sides of Mount Muztagata are very steep and have no way for mountain climbers to conquer them. The west side of the mountain has a smooth slope and majority of mountain climbers choose this side as their traditional route to climb the mountain.
