Located between Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, the Tai Lake, known as "Seismic Pool" in ancient time, is one of the five freshwater lakes. It has an area of 2420 square kilometers with the lake coastline of 400 kilometers long, thus winning the fame of "Eight Hundred Li Big Lake".
There are more than 60 kinds of fish and aquatic and other resources in abundance. Among the famous aquatic products are whitebait (salangid), whitefish, mandarin fish, white shrimp, etc.
Riding on a boundless expanse of blue water, 48 isles and peninsulars and 91 peaks are emerging from the waves, known as "the 72 Peaks" with the East and West Hills of Dongting, Maji (horse-hoof prints) Hill, Shan (three) Hill and Yuan Tou Islet as the most famous among all. The Shan Hill Park has become the most famous scenic spot for tourism in the Tai Lake.
Boating on the Tai Lake is a tourist special feast in Wuxi City. On the endless expanse of blue water, sometimes, the waves roll upon waves, sometimes it becomes quiet like a mirror glittering on the lake with the 72 peaks dimly visible afar riding the waves ups and downs. They make the green hills and clear waters of the Tai Lake look as attractive and beautiful as a piece of picturesque scenery with waves rolling upon waves and hills overlapping on one another. It is indeed a scene majestic in all its variety.
