Yabuli, 200 km away from Harbin (the capital of Heilongjiang province) and 120 km away from Mudanjiang (a big city of Heilongjian) is a winter resort for skiing and spending holidays. In 1996, the Third Asia Winter Game was held here. Ya Bu Li surrounded by numerous mountains full of huge and straight trees, wild fruits and over thousands rare animals was a hunting ground for nobles of the Qing Dynasty and named after Russian word "RBŠOkO", means "apple", for long times ago, Russian had a railway built here and they thought the shape of the earth like an apple. After the Winter Game, the place became well known in the world. The mountains around covering with snow are an elevation of 1374 meters. Here belongs to continental climate of temperate zone and its annual average temperature is 1. The period of accumulated snow is 170 days, skiing days is about 120 days. The best season to ski in China is from mid-October to mid-Feburay. The skiing area with snow in good quality occupied 20 square km. At present, Heilongjiang province is applying for the qualification of under taking the Olympic Winter Game for year of 2010 and the place will become one of the skiing spots of primary election. By now, three of the four mountains that are located in low elevation and high latitudes have been developed. The plentiful resources of plants, snow-land utilized, along with its necessary facilities for entertainment and accommodation are good for people who are interested in skiing, snow scenery and staying in remote and thickly forested mountains.
