Zhangshiyan Scenic Area
Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is located at the southwest of Zanhuang County of Hebei Province, 100 km from Shijiazhuang City.

The Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is a range of screen-like mountains with peaks rising one higher then another. The top and the foot of the mountains are covered with greenery; they have not only the imposing manner of mountain in the north but also the distinguishing feature of the chain of queer of the south of China. The whole landscape embodies magnificence, miracle, precipice, beauty and serenity. The highest peak is Huangannao, which is 1,774 meters above level.

The ridges and peaks of the Zhangshiyan Scenic Area are magnificent sight. The third-grade great fault cliffs are extremely precipitous and majestic. Those peaks and precipices each of which has its own characteristics and strong points amount to 72 mountain and 36 precipices. The natural echo precipice is a miraculous one; its articulation ranks number one throughout the country, which is seldom seen in the world. The masterstroke of nature here is two ridges and one valley make a complete "Set"; there are altogether 24 sets, the bigger ones appear to be grandiose, whereas the smaller ones, delicate. In each and every set, there are deep woods and innumerable mountains and valleys with strange stones everywhere and spring pouring down from them.

The Zhangshiyan Scenic Area has many ponds and springs, contrasting finely with each other and waterfalls and streams are well-connected. There are mainly 3 ponds, 2 lakes, 10 springs and 5 waterfalls. The 3 ponds are the Black Dragon, the Small Dragon and the Fishing Terrace. The 2 lakes are 2 artificial small lake--Crescent Moon Lake and the Tamed Dragon Lake. The 10 springs are the Huai Pond, Zhangnan Pond, Xianren Pond, Tianchi Pond etc. Each of the springs has its own features, some flowing out of the cliffs like a white ribbon, some ejecting from the earth like golden thread and precious beads, some dropping down from the cliffs along the stalactite like mild. They have many things in common, that is, they all flow down from the outlets of the cliffs from several decades of meters, and several hundred meters high above, forming 3 layers of waterfall, Jade Waterfall, Cloud Cliff Pond, Zhangyan (a screen-like mountain peaks), Double waterfall, Water Curtain Waterfall, all of which form a marvelous natural phenomenon. There are many kinds of plants and wild precious birds and animals in the woods of the Zhangshiyan Scenic Area. They are mainly black stork, turtledove, river deer roe deer, ordinary deer, badger, and grand black butterfly.

From summer and autumn to early winter, there usually appears a sea of clouds. When opportunities offer rainbow halo--the light of Buddha can be seen. The soft rime in the early winter adorns the mountains and valleys in such beautiful attire that all the trees look like "Jade trees" and "pear flowers on the branch".
